PDAs: The Best Tools For Business
Filed under: Companies; Tagged as: communication, Companies, computer programming, Computer Programs, computers, electronic gadgets, mobile computing, Mobile Phones, Mobiles, small gadgets, technological gadgets, technology, tools for companiesComments OffLet me present myself: John, main manager for a computer company. Our company are doing jobs related to software programming. Our main projects are all high-end ones. Example: the last big contract we had was for some surveillance software to be used by the city. We spent over 1 year polishing the software. Many hours were spent on it. Now we are working on smaller jobs.
As a manager, five people are under me. They are programmers with very good backgrounds. We do specialize ourselves in projects for Windows, Linux and Mac. We are also working the weekends and the staff currently doing that shift are two part-time students. Both of them are also assigned to the evening tasks. My current contract involves a very polished web site. The customer simply wants the best portal around with all the fuzz possible. Since we started working on it, there have been many polishing done on the software. This customer is very close to his project.
We have high-end machines in the office besides the printers and related stuff. To keep notes of our schedule and tasks, everyone is using the HP iPAQ 4155 Pocket PC. That product enables us to communicate together even outside the office. It is very important for my company to have my employees being updated on the software changes. If one staff is sick, it could be dramatic without proper communication.
It did happen last year. My main programmer had to stay home for a whole two weeks. We were simply too tight on the schedule to make everything up to date. Thankfully, the employee was able to give proper guidance. Such thing rarely happens. Everything is very well documented. That day, we simply had no time to check back everything. The customer was waiting and we were sweating. Since then I made sure everyone is up to date about the project and all the details are clearly understood.
I founded that small venture five years ago. I started it small then grow up big enough to handle bigger projects. Our past customers are the main ones giving us more and more contracts. As any good manager I have to keep in touch with my clients, either for business contact or, of course, for anything they need to know on their project status. The office place is downtown. We are next to the business part. My company has a good location. I love to work here. This is a great job and I do enjoy it a lot !
